My local market has some lovely asparagus on sale, so I thought I'd try my hand at some cream of asparagus soup. Thing is, I've never made it before. Do you any of you have any tried and true recipes for cream of asparagus soup? I'd like to keep it low fat/low cal if possible.

Thanks in advance!

Alright who is going????

I am! Getting the money together now, it should be awesome. If you live in New York, or close enough to bus it on in or can get here by hook or by crook on November 21 2009, do it!

I am really excited about going, I have missed the previous ones, so this year I will go. Two of my favorite local astrologers I know will each be giving a lecture, Mark Wolz and Anne Ortlee. They run Access Astrology on Tuesdays at East West books, where they discuss upcoming transits and what they will bring. Plus famous astrologers will be there too. Check out the schedule http://www.astrologynyc.org/Resources/WinterConfSchedule.pdf

It'll be a discussion of Saturn in Libra, what the planet of discipline, limits and structure will be up to in the sign of seeking balance and trying to get along already. And then we'll get into each participant's chart to see the specifics of what Saturn will ask, expect, require and demand from each. Limited to 5 callers, it'll be, like, cozy.

I'm sure I'm not the first here to stumble upon this site.

http://free-brushes.com/

Personally, I rarely use this stuff, but I love them regardless. If you are a scrapbooker, like image transferring, need to flare something up a little, do you make stamps or stencils, or just need some inspiration... Well, here ya go!

My personal favorites today are dirigibles/blimps, swirly embelishments and high gears.

A SPECIAL TIP THOUGH! On some collections, like high gears, they want you to purchase the "premium" version of their downloading software. BUT if you click on the creator of the set's name it will send you to their personal web page or link. In this case, Rosario's DeviantArt page. Where I quickly found the brush set for free download.

So, enjoy ladies. Go forth and create!

11/6/09 07:47 am - [info]phyllisnewman posting in [info]astrology - 4:44 AM & Astrology?

Hello all.

Date of Birth: 10/28/1985
Time of Birth: 3:00 AM EST
Place of Birth: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

For the last 3 consecutive days, for no reason at all, I have continued to wake up at 4:44 AM the exact same time each morning. It hasn't been for any special reason, it's just happened that way. Is that a sign or something? I've read about waking up at 3:33 meaning something, but I've never heard anything about 4:44. This type of thing doesn't ordinarily happen to me, and since today makes it the third morning it has happened in a row and I know how the number 3 is significant, I just thought I'd ask because I really feel like it could mean something.

So what is going on? What does this mean?

11/5/09 05:46 pm - [info]oyglavin posting in [info]craftgrrl - Need some cork inspiration!

Hello all :)

I am having serious trouble coming up for inspiration for this project... help?

My dad and I are pretty serious Oenophiles (wine lovers/collectors). Part of this obsession has led to collecting corks from special bottles we have enjoyed. I probably have around 30 corks, my dad probably has around 200. I could easily gather more.

I'd like to make some sort of cool wall art or sculpture for him, and eventually for myself as well. His will go in my parent's basement, which has partially been transformed into a wine cellar. It's full of wine related art.

I just can't think of anything fun or creative to do with these corks!

My guidelines are:
~I don't just want to make a standard 'cork board' like this one
~I don't mind painting or altering the corks, but I want to be able to highlight special corks in their original condition (like rare vintages, his favorite wineries, etc)

The only fun idea I found on google is to make a vase of some kind out of the corks, like the ones at http://www.oneofacork.com

I just want to make sure I've thought out all my options before I start painting, cutting and gluing my dad's collection...

Thanks for the inspiration!

11/5/09 03:59 pm - [info]forener posting in [info]astrology - Sun Signs at Work

At any job, I like to compile a list of employee's sun signs for my own entertainment.  For the two major employers for which I've worked, the earth element weighed heavily, followed by air.  As a late Capricorn with a Virgo rising, I can see how I'd be attracted to work an environment with fellow earth people and perhaps that in this case, birds of a feather flock together.

At my current job, earth leads at 35%, followed by a tie between air & water at 23%.  I find it surprising we lack Aries - none whatsoever - given half of our company is comprised of sales people (a competitive field).  The Sun sign with the greatest number of employees is Capricorn (hear hear!), at least double the number of any other Sun sign and half of the management.  The owner is an Independence Day baby and until recently, was the only Cancer at the company.

Anyone else observe the Sun sign makeup of their office?

11/5/09 03:15 pm - [info]e_moondragon posting in [info]vegrecipes - substitute for egg/egg beaters?

Hey there,

I'm going to be starting a mass banana bread bake-off (I owe some ppl thank-yous),

I absolutely LOVE the recipe I have but it calls for eggs,
I will using cage-free like I always do for most of the loaves, as most of them are not vegan or even vegetarian anyway, and cage-free/organic is all I buy.

anyway, I have one friend who is on a huge diet, as she is morbidly obese. I plan to make hers with ww flour and splenda (instead of bisquick and sugar), and while normally I would use egg-beaters, I can't seem to find anything that resembles organic/cage-free/etc.

So, I'm not sure what I can substitute that will bake the same as eggs w/o the caloric/cholesterol/fat content and meets the above requirements.

Any ideas??

I live within an hour of a big city, so maybe if you recommend something I could call around to see where I could find it, even if I bought some in bulk to freeze I know it would get used...

Thanks in advance!

11/5/09 01:56 pm - [info]forener posting in [info]astrology - Purging!

I've had the strong urges to purge my stuff recently.  I've cleaned out & reorganized the storage in my attic, the storage under the stairs, my closet, my second bathroom, my linen closet, kitchen and bedroom.  On the list still: second bedroom, that closet, laundry room, living room and garage.  I'm seriously getting rid of stuff I don't need, don't use and can either sell or could use a new home (freecycle).  I'm trying to accomplish as much as I can while I've got the energy.  Can't figure out which transit might be causing this surge though.  Anyone else feeling this trend?
