Here's another painting I'm giving as a gift. I did it for my cousin who's really into Audrey. I used oil based enamel sign paint. It's really think, smelly and takes forever to dry, but it's perfect for this kind of high contrast pop art. It's super glossy, opaque and is weather proof (more so than the canvas I'd imagine).

Iridescent Cellophane, is it made of Unicorn Tails and Babies First Giggles? Honestly, with the time I've been having finding the stuff it might as well be!

The plain clear stuff is 1-2-3 easy peasy to find, but I require the pretty iridescent stuff. I'm in Canada (Toronto, specifically) so please no suggestions for US Chain only stores! I need it in a bit of a pinch, so I can't order online.

Please and Thank You!

p.s. Hello I am New! I am new to crafting, but I enjoy it muchly.

Have any of you ever made vanilla pudding with vanilla soymilk? I am making this eclair casserole thing today for our party tomorrow night and just realized that I forgot to get milk (which we never buy otherwise) but I have plenty vanilla Silk lite.

Will it be too sweet or weird?

12/17/09 02:17 am - [info]doomsapple posting in [info]astrology - Indication of Red Hair

No. I haven't seen a real-life example of this yet, but--
There is a tradition amongst astrologers that the planet Mars ("the red planet") is more likely to be rising above the eastern horizon (on or near the astrological Ascendant, which supposedly influences a person's appearance) at the time of the birth of a red haired person than for the population in general.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_hair

So how many of you Mars Rising people are reds?

Also if your Mars is at 27 degrees Aries, I wanna hear from ya. This is also an indicator of redheadedness.
http://www.astrologyweekly.com/dictionary/aries-individual-degrees.php

And if you are a red, then you are probably American or British, since the highest concentration of redheads are found in those countries. I myself have red tints in my hair, but have neither Mars placements.

I have a slight obsession with saving every fortune I get. Any ideas on how to display them? Right now I just tape them to my desk and stick them in my wallet or any pouch with a zipper.

12/16/09 07:25 pm - [info]cynnastix posting in [info]astrology

Does anyone know what it means when an individual's saturn falls into the other person's 12th house in a synastry chart? Also -- would the 12th house falling into DC in cancer represent a past life relationship? (I'm thinking this is a karmic relationship.. not sure though)

I'm trying to improve how I interpret charts. There is a lot of talk about south nodes online, but I actually came across something that brought up the 12th house and it's relationship to karma from previous lifetimes. If anyone has any input, it would be greatly appreciated.

12/16/09 07:37 pm - [info]adizzi posting in [info]astrology - MC/IC in real life

a comment in a post here recently got me thinking, thought it could be an interesting discussion.
i was asked if it was coincidence that someone's MC is in sagittarius and the person's new boss is also a sagittarius. i wrote that you'll show up as your MC sign in public/at work, that you'll appear to have those qualities to others.

then thinking about my angles made me look at a couple of things about me a little differently. my MC is in cancer, and for years i've done work that helps people, is nurturing, deals with people's needs and emotions. but i'm not like that at home. i have a capricorn IC (MC & IC always opposite signs), and at home, i'm a minimalist. there's not much food in the house, and it's not very comfortable or a nurturing-seeming place. not that i'm cold or mean at home, but i prefer to make a home that fits more with capricorn energy - simple, the basics, functional, productive - than cancerian energy - warm, protective, comfortable, hospitable.

another example: i had a client a few years ago with a gemini MC. in her work, it was all about words and numbers, gadgets/communication. her approach to her work was very fact-based, just the facts please, here today gone tomorrow. her home, though, with the sagittarius IC, was decorated with furniture and decorative masks from all over the world. not so easy to see a direct opposition with that one, but those two parts of her life did fit clearly with those signs.

you can do this with ascendant-descendant, too, and maybe we're used to thinking of that and how we appear to others personally vs how we go about having relationships. but i thought the MC/IC signs would be interesting to discuss - what signs are on your MC/IC axis?
can you see how in public/at work/outside home & family you carry or seem to others to carry traits of the sign on the MC? can you see how your preferences about your home/personal space have some traits of your IC?

Made a couple new things recently.

Green and Red Yarn Bowl
My friend and I did a craft exchange where she knit me up a pair of wonderful, glorious, soft, warm socks (can you tell I really like them?) and in exchange she wanted a yarn bowl. So first I had to figure out what a yarn bowl was. Then figure out how to make one. It was quite an adventure of trial and error, but I'm reasonably pleased with my final result!

12/16/09 12:33 pm - [info]larivee22 posting in [info]vegrecipes - Mazurek

Mazurek
Adapted from Anna Thomas's The Vegetarian Epicure.

2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup butter
1 egg
1/4 tsp almond extract
1/4 tsps vanilla extract
1 cup milk or cream
1 cup currants
1 cup dates
add cinnamon to your own taste

Combine dry ingredients in bowl, then add the egg, butter, and cream. Add the vanilla and almond extracts. Fold the currants and dates into the batter.

Bake at 350 for at least 40 minutes.

I made this as cupcakes, as I'm travelling over the holidays and have had far better experiences traveling with muffins or cupcakes than I have had with cake, however, you're supposed to make this in a bundt pan.

Glaze

Mix confectioner's sugar together with warm water diluted orange juice.
